Abstract

The study has the objective of identify associated factors to outcome of congenital syphilis that resulted in vertical transmission in one population attended in the ambulatories of the follow-up in Sergipe. Transversal study with children diagnosed with congenital syphilis, with outpatient follow-up in two maternity hospital between November 2017 and April 2018. Interviews were conduct with the mothers and the children’s medical records were verify. Descriptive and associative analyzes were performed, with significance level of the 5% to verify associated factors using SPSS version 18.0. One hundred twelve children were analyzed, most women is between 20 and 34 years old (59.63%), live in countryside (51.79%), had studied less than eight years (63.39%). The antenatal care was perform belatedly in 20.72%, with statistical significance with the mother’s economic situation. Most children with congenital syphilis do not have all recommendations for prevention of mother-to-child transmission since antenatal until the children’s follow-up. It is necessary to develop strategies to improve the service to this population segment.
